Faculty Recognitions
Teacher of the Quarter (2nd quarter 2017-18)
Mr. Leighty Mr. Leighty teaches science, engineering and CATE courses at CLA. He volunteered to go to Project Lead the Way training this year and become certified to teach the course to our students. He has run one of our most popular clubs, Live Action Role Playing (LARP), every year he has been here and has students excited to be at school on a Monday! In addition to these contributions, Mr. Leighty is heavily involved in the First Robotics Competition Team currently building a robot that will compete at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center in early March. Ms. Butler Ms. Butler has been one of CLA's most dedicated teachers. She conducts tutoring multiple days a week (in various content areas), heads many extracurriculars such as Student Council, Beta Club, and National Honor Society, and is instrumental in organizing our Project Showcases. In her first year teaching AP, her psychology class had a 75% pass rate which is 11% higher than the national average. |
Support Staff of the Semester (Fall 2017)
Mr. Kulls Coastal Leadership Academy wants to congratulate CLA’s bus driver, Mr. Paul Kulls, for being named Support Staff of the Semester for Fall 2017. We are very grateful to have Mr. Kulls as he came to us with years of experience, both driving busses and operating bus companies. From his wonderful communication with parents, rapport with the students, and vast knowledge of bussing laws and policies, Mr. Kulls has been an integral part of Coastal Leadership Academy and the development of our programs. Ms. Burns Ms. Burns teaches English Language Arts and Spanish. She has worked tremendously to establish a partnership with CCI Greenheart to host ten Spanish exchange students with current CLA students and faculty. In addition to working with the exchange program, she leads the Staff Sunshine Committee and serves as head volleyball coach and assistant basketball coach. |
