Board Meetings are held the 4th Tuesday of the Month at 6:00 PM in the School Café unless otherwise posted. All board meetings are open to the public.

Qualifications to be a Board Member
Bridgett is a mother of 4 boys Christopher 29; Christian 24; Patrick 17 & Sean 16. She is married to Terry Fowler, a retired Horry County police officer. The Fowlers live on their family farm near Loris. Patrick & Sean attend CLA. Bridgett has served as the clerk of Session at Loris First Presbyterian Church for the past 5 years and sits on several Special Education Committees throughout the area and State.
She teaches the middle/high school youth groups at her church and volunteers at several charities throughout Horry County. She has been a paralegal for over 20 years. This year her family is currently hosting their 9th & 10th foreign exchange students.
Melissa is an Horry County native. She is married to Kevin McGrath and has four boys. She graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a BA in Sociology. She is the co-owner of Value Systems. They sell, service and install restaurant point of sale systems along the Grand Strand and parts of the Southeast. She has worked at the Department of Social Services as a foster care case manager, Citizens Against Spouse Abuse as a case manager and Sea Haven, Inc. as a program director serving homeless, runaway, at risk youth. Her family has been attending Seacoast Vineyard Church for 13 years where she serves as the intercessory prayer team leader. Her passions are seeing youth reach their full potential, adoption advocacy and serving her church through prayer. She enjoys watching movies, spending time with family, dancing and dining out.
Rita D’Ippolito has been a member of the CLA Board of Directors since October 2015, serving as Secretary since 2016. She is the mother of 3 children, the oldest of whom graduated with the CLA Founding Class of 2017. Rita holds a Master’s of Teaching in Special Education Learning Disabilities and currently teaches the Early Childhood Special Education preschool class at River Oaks Elementary. She is actively involved in community and education, previously serving as Treasurer at her church, as a volunteer for PTO Board positions and Yearbook Advisor at Ocean Bay Elementary, and currently as a parent volunteer for band activities with Ocean Bay Middle School and Carolina Forest High School Marching Panthers.
Angela Harrell has lived in the area for 20 years. Education is very important to her. She has an associate degree in paralegal services from Horry Georgetown Technical College. She also has a bachelor’s degree in political science, with a minor in pre-law from Coastal Carolina University. Angela worked in a law firm as a paralegal, until she decided to be a “stay at home mom” for her three children. Her oldest currently attends CLA as an 11th grader. He has a minor learning disability, which has inspired her to learn a lot about the education system over the past 10 years. I have learned the importance and impact a school environment has on its students. CLA provides a comfortable, structured, and positive learning environment. It offers students different ways to explore their interests and express their individuality. She agrees with the concept of project-based learning and thinks that it has many benefits for students.
Joe has served on Coastal Board for the last two years using his extensive knowledge in construction management. Joe Lesko is a native of Cleveland Ohio and operates as a sales manager for Nations Homes. He specializes in homes stretching from Georgetown, SC to Brunswick County, NC. Joe carries an Unlimited License in North Carolina and a Residential License in South Carolina. Joe started his construction business in Ohio in 1984 and relocated to Myrtle Beach in 2005 to continue his career.
Joe is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering. He is active in the community and serves on the Board of Directors for Grand Strand Citizens for Life and Fedelis, which teaches horse care and horse-riding skills to at-risk youth. Joe is an active member of Risen Christ Lutheran Church with his family.
Joe enjoys going to the gym when he finds time during the week and relaxing with a round of golf. His claim to fame in the golf world is getting a hole in one and winning a car.

Evelyn's family has now been in the Myrtle Beach area for 15 years. She is a Physical Therapist, currently working part time for Kindred at Home. She received her Biology degree from the College of Charleston, and her Physical Therapy degree from MUSC. She has experience working with both children and adults. In addition, her husband and her also own Lyons Prosthetics and Orthotics in Conway. She has three children; two are in college the youngest is a rising 11th grader at CLA. She enjoys travelling, gardening, and anything her kids are into -- including LARP.
John attended public schools in Lakewood, OH. He received a B.A. in Economics from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale and a Ph.D. in Economics from The University of Missouri Columbia./ John received a National Science Foundation post-graduate grant to study Economics at Harvard University. He has taught at Kansas State University, Virginia Commonwealth University Illinois State University and Francis Marion University. John joined the Faculty at Coastal Carolina University in 1999, where he currently is a Professor of Economics. He serves on a number of university committees. He is a member of professional academic boards and has served as editor of academic journals. In December 2014, Governor Steven Beshear of Kentucky named John a Kentucky Colonel for his many "contributions to society." In July 2018, John was elected to serve on the St. Charles Home Owners Association (Georgetown County), where he currently is Treasurer and as a Member of the Architectural Review Board. John served as a Member of the original formative Coastal Leadership Academy Board of Directors.
I moved to Myrtle Beach in 2013. I am originally from Chicago but I lived in Kentucky, Tennessee, & Louisiana before moving to South Carolina. I received my Masters of Science degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am a pediatric speech-language pathologist and currently work for the Horry County School system. I married my high school sweetheart and we have two amazing children, Nicholas and Madeline who are 16 years old. I am grateful to be on the board at CLA and have the opportunity to help the school grow and achieve all of their goals.
