Why Enroll Your Child in a Special Education School?

April 10, 2020

The Coastal Leadership Academy is a public charter high school in Socastee, South Carolina. As a special education school, we're able to offer opportunities and resources that go beyond those of the average high school. We're proud to provide a learning environment that adapts to the needs of every student, all the while, giving them a broad education and access to fun programs.

Unsure if your child's current school is up to the task? Here are 3 major signs that you may want to enroll your child in a special education school like the Coastal Leadership Academy.

Not Enough Clubs or Sports Programs

Some schools are unable to offer many choices when it comes to clubs or athletics. This can be frustrating for students as they don't get to pursue interests they may be passionate about. At the Coastal Leadership Academy, they'll never have this problem.

We offer a wide array of athletics programs, including basketball, cheer, cross country, archery, and volleyball. The best part? They're all coached by professionals in the sport who are incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We also have clubs for just about everything, including music club, student senate, game club, robotics, and an eco-conscious community volunteer program called the green team. Needless to say, your child will have far more options than ever before.

Your Child Gets Lost in the Shuffle

Overcrowding is a common problem among high schools across the country. Teachers, of course, do their absolute best, but when there are so many students in every class, it's easy for some to get lost in the crowd. As a result, students who learn in ways considered nontypical aren't given the tools they need to succeed.

That's why we maintain a 10:1 student-to-teacher ratio to ensure that each and every student is given the time and attention they deserve. It's important to us that each student feels heard, understood, and is accommodated for their unique learning style. That's part of what makes the education we offer special.

They're Unprepared for the Future

We believe that the core purpose of high school is to prepare students for their future, no matter the career or post-secondary education program they may want to pursue. However, students attending the average high school often feel totally ill-equipped in terms of knowing their options, learning about opportunities, or finding and applying to college.

We offer students the guidance they need and deserve in order to make informed choices about their futures. We equip them with the knowledge they need, offer mentorship, and provide them with all the additional resources we can. This includes things like career assessments, college searches, application assistance, and the opportunity to obtain over 24 college credits while studying at the academy.

These choices can have a major impact on a student's life. That's why we encourage them to begin thinking about their future and pursuing their goals in the 9th grade, rather than rushing them in their final year.
